About the project

Birding Day is a platform of bird watcher communities of Eurasia. It was created by Kazakhstani Askar Isabekov, a bird photographer and the founder of Birds.kz.

Birds.kz became the oldest and the largest site of the platform. The communities of Siberia, the Far East, European Russia and other regions work on the same system.

History and Askar Isabekov

  • More than 20 years of work
  • 8 large sites in different regions
  • More than 1 million bird photographs
  • About 50 thousand visitors a day (estimate)

Visits: server logs, November 2026, estimate.

Bird watching: a mass and growing hobby

In the USA 96 million people watch birds, that is 37% of residents over 16. The average age of a bird watcher is 49. On trips to see birds alone they spend about 14 billion dollars a year.

This is an adult and keen audience: people travel, take photographs, learn to tell species apart and spend weekends in nature.

The community in Kazakhstan is growing year by year too. 2026 is a record year: it is not over yet, and already more new observations have been uploaded to Birds.kz than in any previous year.

Since 2005 observers have uploaded to the site 342 thousand photographs of 511 bird species. About a hundred authors publish new observations every year.

The site is opened by more than 15 thousand people a day. Most come from Google and Yandex when they look for the name of a bird.

Why the platform needs partners

All Birding Day sites work on one system. They are free for readers and authors, the project is kept alive by volunteers.

Now we are moving the platform to a new architecture. Birds.kz goes first: a completely new site on the birds.kz domain and servers in Kazakhstan. The other communities will follow to the same infrastructure.

So support of a partner works not for one site but for bird watchers of all Eurasia. We look for money for the infrastructure through partnerships and grants.

Partnership offer

Audience of the platform: about 50,000 visitors a day by our estimate, of them more than 15,000 on Birds.kz.

we are looking for

A partner who will provide a cloud server for the platform

We will agree on the configuration and a test period with your team.

you get

  • Logo and the caption “Hosting partner” on the Birds.kz home page, later on the other sites of the platform
  • A story about the partner on the “About the site” page
  • A news post for the community and posts in social networks
  • A joint case study “How Birds.kz moved to a Kazakh host”

Visits: Birds.kz by server logs, the platform by estimate, November 2026. We discuss the terms with each partner separately.

Let us discuss

We will be glad to tell you more about the project, show the new site and answer the questions of your team.
